Aera Redefines Field Watches With The Stylish M-1 Field And Blackbird
Aera has entered the field watch scene with its contemporary take on a classic design, introducing the M-1 Field and M-1 Blackbird models. Drawing inspiration from the Dirty Dozen watches of WWII, Aera’s latest releases blend vintage aesthetics with modern craftsmanship, offering an elevated alternative in the competitive field watch segment.
Crafted from 904L stainless steel, the case ensures enhanced resistance to corrosion, with the M-1 Field featuring a brushed finish and the M-1 Blackbird sporting a black PVD-coated exterior. Measuring 39mm in diameter, 13.14mm in thickness, and 47.60mm in length, these watches achieve a balanced profile suitable for various wrist sizes. Key design elements include a domed sapphire crystal, a smooth bezel, sloping lugs, and a fluted crown positioned at 3 o’clock. A screw-down solid case back and 100-meter water resistance enhance durability.
The matte black dial of both models features Globolight Arabic numerals, combining ceramic with Super-LumiNova for exceptional legibility. The luminescence extends to the brand’s logo at 12 o’clock, glowing green and white in low-light conditions. Pencil-style hands and small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock complement the minimalist design, framed by a railroad minute track. The M-1 Blackbird introduces blue accents, including a subtle detail on the seconds hand, a unique dash between the double dots at noon and a matching crown for a stealthy yet striking aesthetic.
Powering these timepieces is the Sellita SW216-1, a hand-wound movement based on the ETA 2824-2. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it provides a power reserve of up to 42 hours, emphasizing an old-school mechanical appeal.
Both watches come with integrated leather straps, designed to match their respective case finishes. The M-1 Field is paired with black and tan leather straps, while the M-1 Blackbird comes with black and grey suede options. Priced at $1,750 for the M-1 Field and $1,900 for the M-1 Blackbird, these models offer a refined yet rugged option for field watch enthusiasts seeking something distinctive.
