A Tribute To Japanese Textile Craft: The New Seiko Presage Classic Series 38mm

Seiko has introduced four new additions to the Presage Classic Series, unveiling a new 38 mm case size and a collection of textured dials inspired by Tomioka silk, one of Japan’s most renowned silk products. The new references include the HCC001, HCC002, HCC003, and the limited-edition HCC008, combining traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern watchmaking.

Tomioka Silk-Inspired Dials

The highlight of the new collection is the distinctive dial design, which takes inspiration from the texture and appearance of Tomioka silk. To recreate the refined character of the material, Seiko employs a stamped pattern that adds depth and visual complexity to the dial surface, creating a sophisticated textured effect reminiscent of guilloché finishing.

The three regular-production models are distinguished by Japanese-inspired dial colours. The HCC001 comes with a Shironeri white dial, while the HCC002 features a Wakatake-iro green dial. Completing the trio, the HCC003 is presented with a Sakura-iro pink dial that reinforces the collection’s connection to Japanese culture and craftsmanship.

The fourth model, the HCC008, is a limited edition created in partnership with the Tomioka Silk Promotion Organisation. Its dial is inspired by a rare silk variety produced in Japan’s Gunma Prefecture and receives a pearlescent coating that enhances its shimmering appearance. This model is also the only watch in the collection to feature a pink gold-coloured case, setting it apart from the regular-production references.

New 38mm Case Size

With these releases, Seiko introduces a new 38 mm case size that sits between the existing 36 mm and 40 mm Presage Classic Series models, offering an alternative for those seeking a balanced wrist presence.

The case measures 38 mm in diameter and 12.90 mm in thickness, while providing a water resistance rating of 100 metres. All four models are equipped with a screw-down exhibition caseback, allowing owners to view the movement at work.

The HCC001, HCC002, and HCC003 are housed in stainless steel cases treated with Seiko’s Super-Hard Coating, designed to improve resistance to daily wear. The limited-edition HCC008 uses the same stainless steel construction but is finished with a pink gold-coloured coating that complements its exclusive dial.

In-House Calibre 6R51

Powering the collection is Seiko’s in-house automatic Calibre 6R51. Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, the movement delivers a power reserve of approximately 72 hours when fully wound, making it suitable for extended periods off the wrist. The movement drives the central hours, minutes, and seconds display and can be admired through the transparent caseback.

Bracelet and Strap Options

Seiko offers two different wearing configurations across the collection. The HCC001 and HCC002 are paired with stainless steel bracelets featuring the same Super-Hard Coating found on their cases. These bracelets are secured by a folding clasp equipped with a push-button release system.

The HCC003 and HCC008 are delivered on dark brown leather straps fitted with a three-fold clasp. For the HCC003, the strap colour is inspired by the trunk of a cherry tree, while the HCC008’s strap references the distinctive brick architecture of the historic Tomioka Silk Mill. Both straps are produced using leather sourced from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries, reflecting Seiko’s commitment to responsible sourcing practices.

Availability and Price

The new Seiko Presage Classic Series 38mm models are scheduled to arrive in boutiques and authorised retailers from July 2026.

The HCC001 and HCC002 will retail for € 1,050, while the HCC003 is priced slightly lower at € 1,030. The HCC008, produced as a limited edition of 2,000 pieces worldwide, will be available for € 1,200.
