A Slimmer Take On The Tonneau Watch: The New Maen x Nico Leonard Ultra-Thin
Maen continues its collaboration with watch YouTuber Nico Leonard with the launch of the new Grand Tonneau Ultra-Thin, a model that builds on the design language introduced by last year’s Jump Hour edition. This latest release moves in a more classic direction, exchanging the complication-driven display of its predecessor for a cleaner two-hand layout while placing the emphasis firmly on proportions, finishing, and everyday versatility.
The watch retains the distinctive tonneau-shaped case that defined the original collaboration, measuring 34 mm across and 45 mm from lug to lug. These dimensions give the piece a strong visual presence on the wrist, enhanced by the elongated barrel-shaped silhouette that naturally follows the contours of the arm. The standout feature, however, is its remarkably slim profile. At just 6.40 mm thick, the Grand Tonneau Ultra-Thin becomes the thinnest watch ever produced by Maen, offering an elegant wrist presence and the kind of wearability that allows it to slip effortlessly beneath a shirt cuff.

Its case architecture plays an important role in defining the watch’s character. Polished side rails flow seamlessly into the lugs, framing a brushed central case section that introduces a pleasing contrast in textures. This interplay between polished and satin-brushed surfaces gives the watch a more sophisticated and sculptural appearance, while sapphire crystals on both the front and exhibition caseback reinforce the premium execution. Despite its slim and dress-oriented proportions, the watch still offers 50 meters of water resistance, ensuring practicality for daily use.

The dial design marks one of the most notable departures from last year’s model. Instead of the jump hour display, Maen and Nico Leonard have opted for a traditional central hour-and-minute layout, giving the watch a more timeless and versatile identity. The dial itself, however, remains visually expressive. It features a double-layer construction combined with a richly textured fumé gradient finish, creating depth and visual complexity. An enamel coating enhances the dial’s surface further, adding gloss and vibrancy that shifts beautifully under changing light.

The collection is available in four striking colorways — black fumé, turquoise fumé, yellow fumé, and red fumé — as well as a fifth version that pairs a gold-plated case with a black dial. Each variant gives the watch a distinct personality, from understated elegance to more contemporary and bolder expressions.
Powering the Grand Tonneau Ultra-Thin is the La Joux-Perret D101, a slim Swiss hand-wound calibre selected specifically to complement the watch’s ultra-thin architecture. The movement operates at 3Hz and delivers a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. Importantly, it is presented here in a true no-date configuration, avoiding the inconvenience of an unused crown position. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the calibre further reinforces the enthusiast appeal of the piece.

Another highlight of this release is the introduction of a new stainless steel bracelet. Described by the brand as a bamboo-style bracelet, its rounded, articulated links immediately evoke the iconic rouleaux-style bracelets associated with Breitling, lending the watch a subtle vintage-inspired luxury feel. The bracelet integrates naturally with the tonneau case and is secured by a triple-folding clasp, while a quick-release system adds welcome convenience. For those who prefer a sportier look, the textured rubber strap from the previous collaboration is also included.

The Maen x Nico Leonard Grand Tonneau Ultra-Thin will be available through the brand’s official website from April 14 until April 21, starting at midnight Stockholm time. Prices start at € 1,519 for the steel option with a rubber strap, while the option with a steel bracelet adds approximately € 151 to the price, excluding local taxes and fees.
