A New Look For A Classic: The Hanhart 417 ES Mocha Flyback Date
Hanhart has long been recognized for its expertise in mechanical chronographs, a reputation built on decades of producing reliable timing instruments for professionals. The 417 ES, originally created for German military pilots in the 1950s, is one of the brand’s most emblematic models. The new Hanhart 417 ES Mocha Flyback Date, developed in collaboration with Porsche Fahrer Magazin and limited to 200 pieces, introduces a fresh aesthetic while preserving the functional identity of the series.

Case and Design
The watch uses a 42 mm stainless-steel case finished with a combination of brushed and polished surfaces. Its dimensions, including a thickness of 13.50 mm and a lug-to-lug length of 49.80 mm, reflect the purposeful proportions of classic pilot’s chronographs, yet remain comfortable for everyday wear. One of the most noticeable updates to this edition is the transition from Hanhart’s traditional coin-edge bezel to a smooth, polished bezel. This change gives the Mocha Flyback Date a more streamlined and contemporary look while clearly distinguishing it from the standard 417 ES models.

Despite this design shift, Hanhart retains the signature red HyCeram chronograph pusher, a long-standing brand hallmark originally intended to minimize accidental chronograph resets. The watch also offers a practical level of robustness with 100 meters of water resistance. Both the domed front crystal and the sapphire display back are equipped with internal anti-reflective coating to enhance clarity and legibility.
Dial and Legibility
A mocha-brown dial sets this edition apart from the typically monochromatic 417 ES family, adding warmth and depth to the design. White Arabic numerals and syringe-style hands maintain the model’s strong emphasis on readability, while a framed date window at six o’clock integrates neatly into the dial layout. The minute and central seconds hands feature subtly curved tips designed to reduce parallax error and improve precision when reading elapsed time. For low-light conditions, the numerals and hands are coated with Super-LumiNova X2 C1, ensuring clear visibility.

Movement: Manual Flyback Performance
At the heart of the Mocha Flyback Date is the Sellita AMT5100 M, a manually wound, column-wheel chronograph movement equipped with a flyback function. The caliber operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a power reserve of 58 hours. Hanhart adjusts each movement in-house for enhanced performance, regulating it to an accuracy range of 0 to +8 seconds per day with a maximum positional variation of 10 seconds. The movement’s classic finishing can be admired through the sapphire caseback.

Straps and Interchangeability
The watch is supplied with a dark brown calfskin strap lined with Alcantara for extra comfort. It also includes a removable Bund-style lower strap, offering an optional vintage-inspired look reminiscent of traditional pilot’s equipment. For those who prefer a more contemporary feel, a stainless-steel bracelet is also available. Both strap and bracelet use quick-release spring bars, allowing the wearer to switch between configurations without the need for tools.

Pricing and Availability
The Hanhart 417 ES Mocha Flyback Date is produced as a limited edition of 200 pieces. It is priced at € 2,690 when purchased on a leather strap, and € 2,890 when equipped with the stainless-steel bracelet. With its warm dial color, simplified bezel, and high-performing manual flyback movement, this edition brings a fresh character to one of Hanhart’s most important chronographs while staying true to its utilitarian roots.
