A New All-Black Limited Edition: The Unimatic x Maxfield U3S-M

Unimatic has released a new interpretation of its Modello Tre chronograph in partnership with Maxfield, the Los Angeles boutique known for its avant-garde fashion selection and minimalistic aesthetic. The resulting model, the Unimatic U3S-M, is limited to only 30 pieces and presents a complete monochromatic execution built around durability and industrial design.

A Fully Black DLC Exterior

The U3S-M is defined by a stainless-steel case treated with a black DLC sandblasted finish that gives the watch a uniform, matte appearance with enhanced scratch resistance. The case measures 40 mm in diameter and 15 mm in thickness, maintaining the robust presence characteristic of the Modello Tre line. This coating continues across the matching bracelet and the 120-click unidirectional bezel, which features a stainless-steel insert treated with the same DLC application. The only contrasting element is a subtle glossy black pip positioned at 12 o’clock.

Despite its stylistic direction, the chronograph retains Unimatic’s functional engineering, including a screw-down crown and screw-down pushers that contribute to a water resistance rating of 300 meters.

Monochromatic Dial Design

The dial remains fully faithful to Maxfield’s preference for a pure black palette. It features a matte black base complemented by snailed black sub-dials at three o’clock for the 30-minute chronograph counter and at nine o’clock for the running seconds. Glossy black printed markers form the chronograph seconds track and define the primary hour indications, ensuring the dial remains consistent with the watch’s stealthy visual language.

Unimatic’s wireframe obelisk hands continue the minimalistic theme, and the chronograph seconds hand—also executed in black—appears without a counterbalance. The design intentionally excludes luminous material to maintain the uniformity of the all-black concept.

Movement and Caseback

Inside the U3S-M is the Sellita caliber SW510 BH b, an automatic chronograph movement operating at a 4Hz beat rate and offering a 62-hour power reserve. Known for its reliability and solid performance, the movement aligns with Unimatic’s utilitarian ethos while supporting the more artistic presentation of this collaboration.

The caseback features a sapphire display window framed by brushed stainless steel, contrasting slightly with the rest of the blacked-out case. The movement is fitted with a Maxfield-engraved rotor, adding a collaborative signature that reinforces the limited-edition nature of the piece.

Packaging

Each example of the Unimatic x Maxfield U3S-M is delivered in a tactical hard case bearing the branding of both Unimatic and Maxfield. The packaging mirrors the rugged, monochrome theme of the watch and underscores the collaboration’s emphasis on exclusivity and design coherence.
