A Modern Take On A Classic: Introducing The Alpina Heritage Tropic Proof
At Watches and Wonders 2025, Alpina reintroduces a timepiece that speaks directly to the soul of vintage watchmaking: the Heritage Tropic Proof. This elegant, time-only wristwatch draws inspiration from Alpina’s historic designs while being reimagined for the modern collector—combining subtle retro aesthetics with contemporary reliability and craftsmanship.
A Thoughtful Tribute to the Past
Offered in two dial variations—white or black with a glossy finish—the new Heritage Tropic Proof pays homage to the vintage Alpina models of the 1960s. Both dials feature a mirror-like surface, recalling the era’s highly sought-after gilt dials. The applied silver-tone indexes and hand-polished hour and minute hands create a refined visual balance, staying faithful to mid-century styling.

The case design also echoes historical significance. Measuring 34mm in diameter, the stainless steel case incorporates angled lugs and a distinctive 10-sided screw-down caseback—a design choice reminiscent of cases once produced by renowned specialist François Borgel. This heritage detail not only reinforces the watch’s vintage credentials but also contributes to its water resistance.
Mechanical Simplicity with a Modern Touch
Inside the Tropic Proof beats the hand-wound Alpina caliber AL-480. Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz, this movement offers a 42-hour power reserve. Though newly introduced and with few technical details disclosed so far, the AL-480 continues Alpina’s tradition of providing accessible mechanical excellence, keeping the spirit of traditional watchmaking alive.

Compact Dimensions, Big Character
True to its vintage character, the watch is kept slim at 9.25mm thick, including the domed sapphire box crystal, which features anti-reflective treatment. This choice enhances legibility while preserving the appearance of acrylic crystals found on mid-20th-century timepieces. The result is a watch that feels period-correct yet robust enough for everyday use.

Availability and Price
The Alpina Heritage Tropic Proof is not a limited edition, allowing broader access to its vintage charm. Both dial versions will be available from July 2025, with a retail price of CHF 1,795.

This was one of the standout surprises brought by Alpina to this year’s Watches and Wonders. It reflects the brand’s steady and thoughtful strategy—continuing to develop modern timepieces while also honoring its heritage. The Heritage Tropic Proof, to the delight of longtime fans, joins the permanent collection, further anchoring the brand’s identity in its historical roots. We appreciate its refined vintage aesthetic and compact, elegant dimensions—traits that are clearly defining trends at this year’s fair, and ones we’ve been anticipating for quite some time.
