A Gem-Set Goodbye: The Baltic MR Moissanite

Baltic presents the MR Moissanite, a limited-edition evolution of its ultra-thin MR series that combines compact dress-watch proportions with a gemstone-set bezel. Available in two dial executions and produced in strictly limited quantities, this release represents the closing chapter of the current MR collection before a future update.

Case and Proportions

The MR Moissanite preserves the balanced dimensions that defined the MR line. The stainless steel case measures 36 mm in diameter and 9.90 mm in thickness, maintaining the refined proportions expected of a classic dress watch. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters, suitable for everyday exposure but clearly aligned with its formal positioning.

The round case features integrated lugs, a design choice that reinforces its vintage-inspired character while ensuring fluid transitions into the strap or bracelet. Protecting the dial is a domed hesalite crystal, which enhances the watch’s mid-century aesthetic and contributes to the overall slim profile.

The most distinctive addition to this edition is the bezel, now set with baguette-cut laboratory-grown moissanite stones, creating a faceted geometric frame around the dial, adding visual intensity to the otherwise understated case architecture.

Two Dial Variants

The MR Moissanite is offered in two configurations, both featuring a glossy black dial and the characteristic off-centered small seconds display positioned at 7 o’clock.

The MR Moissanite Roulette adopts a sector-style layout composed of two circular-brushed tracks. The outermost ring displays the minute scale, while the wider inner track carries white Arabic numerals for the hours. The small seconds subdial intersects the hour track, adding asymmetry to the overall design. Faceted dauphine-style hands provide sharp definition against the polished black background, while the snailed finish of the small seconds counter introduces additional texture. The interplay between brushed chapter rings, crisp numerals, and angular hands gives this version a more technical character.

The MR Moissanite Classic follows the original MR01 design language and leans more heavily into traditional dress-watch codes. It features applied, polished Breguet numerals, a clean peripheral minutes track, and elegantly shaped leaf hands. The small seconds counter remains positioned at 7 o’clock, maintaining continuity with the collection’s distinctive layout. In this configuration, the classical dial elements contrast directly with the luminous moissanite bezel, creating a balanced yet visually expressive composition.

Movement: Hangzhou Calibre 5000

Powering the MR Moissanite is the Hangzhou Calibre 5000, an ultra-thin automatic movement built around a micro-rotor architecture. Operating at a frequency of 4Hz, or 28,800 vibrations per hour, the movement delivers a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. With a thickness of just 4mm, the calibre plays a central role in maintaining the watch’s sub-10mm case height.

The micro-rotor construction allows automatic winding without the additional height of a traditional central rotor. For this edition, the movement features darkened bridges and plates that visually align with the black dial. Decorative finishes include graining and perlage, and the movement fills the caseback, visible through the exhibition window.

Strap and Bracelet Options

The MR Moissanite is available either on an Italian calfskin leather strap or paired with a stainless steel beads-of-rice bracelet. The leather strap reinforces the watch’s formal orientation, while the beads-of-rice bracelet enhances its vintage-inspired character and provides a more integrated metallic presence on the wrist.

Limited Edition and Pricing

Each dial variant of the MR Moissanite is limited to 100 pieces. Pricing is set at € 1,100 when purchased on the leather strap and € 1,160 when selected with the beads-of-rice bracelet, both figures excluding taxes.

With its compact dimensions, micro-rotor movement, glossy black dial executions, and moissanite-set bezel, the MR Moissanite stands as a technically distinctive and visually assertive closing edition of Baltic’s current MR collection.
