The Vertex M36 Desert Edition introduces a new configuration within the brand’s military-inspired M36 collection, focusing on material execution and a redesigned dial while maintaining the compact proportions that define the model. This limited edition is produced in two case materials—stainless steel and bronze—with each version restricted to 30 pieces.

Case and Dimensions

The case measures 36 mm in diameter and 11mm in thickness, dimensions that closely reflect the restrained sizing of mid-20th-century British military wristwatches. Its smooth, rounded bezel and curved case profile contribute to a clean, utilitarian aesthetic, while the fluted crown provides improved grip and reinforces the tool-watch character. The modest footprint and balanced proportions make the watch particularly versatile on the wrist, preserving the practical spirit of traditional field watches.

Buyers can choose between stainless steel, which delivers a straightforward and robust appearance, or bronze, a material that will gradually develop patina over time, enhancing the watch’s vintage appeal and giving each piece a slightly unique surface character as it ages.

Desert-Inspired Dial

The defining feature of the Desert Edition is its sandy khaki dial, inspired by arid desert landscapes associated with World War II operations. This warmer tone distinguishes it from the darker dial variants found elsewhere in the M36 lineup. Beyond color, the dial introduces a structural change in the hour markers. Instead of the solid blocks of Super-LumiNova used in standard models, the Desert Edition features applied metal-framed indexes filled with luminous material. This construction provides clearer visual definition against the lighter dial while preserving strong legibility in low-light conditions. The handset is also coated with luminous material, and the layout incorporates a small seconds subdial positioned at 6 o’clock, maintaining symmetry and functional clarity.

In addition to the Arabic numerals, handset, and small seconds display, the dial incorporates a printed railroad-style minute track positioned along the outer edge. This track enhances precision when reading elapsed minutes and reinforces the instrument-like character of the watch. Luminous markers appear at five-minute intervals, supporting visibility in low-light conditions while maintaining a clean and symmetrical layout.

At 12 o’clock, the brand’s signature inscription is printed beneath the Vertex name, followed by the iconic Broad Arrow symbol. This marking—historically used to denote British government property—further underscores the model’s military lineage and connects the Desert Edition to the heritage that defines the M36 collection.

Movement

Powering the watch is the automatic Sellita SW260-1 caliber. This movement operates in a small seconds configuration and offers a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. Based on the SW200 architecture, it is a proven Swiss automatic platform known for reliability and ease of servicing. The movement is concealed behind a closed caseback engraved with the Bagnold sun compass, a navigation instrument historically used by the Long Range Desert Group in desert environments where magnetic compasses proved unreliable. The engraving strengthens the historical narrative that underpins the Desert Edition.

Limited Production and Pricing

Production is limited to 30 pieces in stainless steel, priced at GBP 2,265, and 30 pieces in bronze, priced at GBP 2,395. The slight premium over standard models reflects both the limited nature of the release and the revised dial construction featuring applied luminous indexes.
